In an attempt to curb the growing number of coronavirus cases in Goa, the state administration has imposed a mandatory rapid antigen test for travellers entering Goa. Earlier, swab tests were being conducted by the state on the entry of outsiders.
Results in 30 minutes!
The Standard Operating Procedure for those traveling to Goa, stands unchanged except the testing technique, that will have now have rapid antigen testing too. The test results carried out by Standard Q COVID-19 Ag antigen kits, are said to be obtained in 30 minutes unlike the usual RT-PCR test that takes 3-4 hours. This diagnostic test is conducive for point-of-care testing that directly identifies the presence or absence of an antigen, thereby giving instant results. These kits are capped at Rs. 450 by the ICMR.

Until now, those arriving in Goa had to undergo a swab test and a consequent state run institutional quarantine until the test results came out. Those who declined these tests had to go through a compulsory 2 week (14 days) home quarantine.
About 500 people enter the state everyday and 2 to 3 of these test positive for the virus. This quick detection technique will help to quarantine and treat them with promptness.
