Senior medical staff in Rajasthan believe that the state is inching towards herd immunity with a quadrupled rise in the doubling rate of the coronavirus infection. Rising from 58 days in November to 124 days now, the staggering growth rate of coronavirus indicates healing trends in the desert state, as per medical practitioners. Rajasthan reported about 2765 cases on November 28, and a month later, on December 28, the tallies fell to 798 cases, which testify that the virus is slowly losing its feet in Rajasthan.
Winter COVID-19 curb indicate herd immunity in Rajasthan
According to senior doctor Virendra Singh, “There were estimates that COVID-19 cases can go up during winters. However, the continuous dwindling of numbers suggests that we are reaching the stage of herd immunity.” The state’s covid statistics, marked merely a month apart have projected positive trends, with a drastic drop in the active caseload.
Statements by health officials also confirmed that the total infections in Rajasthan have been capped at around 1,000 cases in the last 7 days. This was also backed by the State Scertary of Medicine and Health who added that despite the 100 per cent RT-PCR tests being done, the continuous fall in the positivity rate is a good sign. Only 137 corona patients are admitted as against a capacity of 1,200 beds in RUHS Hospital, he said, adding that the infection rate has reduced to 3.75 per cent in the last one week.
This overall dip in the number of new infections in the state has been exhibited most starkly inJaipur, where the daily infections have dropped to 76 cases from 700 each day, around Diwali. A similar slope has been observed in other cities of the city, which can be gauzed by a diminished demand for oxygen and ventilators in state hospitals and healthcare institutes.
Is coronavirus circling its death?
Dr Rajababu Panwar, Vice-Chancellor of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, speaking on the nature of the virus by taking into account the SARS-1, H1N1 and other viruses, said that every virus has a death circle along with its birth circle and after a while the effect of the virus starts decreasing.
In a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday, the Head of the Cabinet stated, “This is a good sign that COVID numbers are decreasing. However, till the time COVID goes away completely, we need to work with the same alacrity and adopt all precautions.” He also said that there is a need to speed up the preparations for vaccination and also issued instruction to induct intensive training of medical and other related personnel from state to block level.
