‘Ganga Conservation’ to be included as a subject under Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board

An initiative by the Namami Gange Department, students under the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) will soon study ‘Ganga Conservation’ as a subject at the high school and intermediate level. As per the statement of a government official, a proposal to include Ganga conservation and prevention of water pollution in the syllabus has been drafted. Further, the UPSEB has sent it to a committee of Hindi experts for consideration.

Compulsory for students to take part in the Ganga cleanliness programme

Through this curriculum, pupils will be able to learn ways to curb water pollution, specifically pertaining to the Ganges and the journey of the river which rises from the southern Great Himalayas and empties itself into the Bay of Bengal.

The idea behind this venture is to link the Ganga cleanliness campaign with the youth and spread the concept of ‘Nirmal and Aviral Ganga’ among children. As per officials, this initiative will not only enlighten the children with insights about the river but will also bestow the Ganga cleanliness initiatives with a heightened momentum.

The Namami Gange and the state government’s rural water supply department have issued instructions to the secondary education department to inculcate new courses and activities related to Ganga pollution. Additionally, according to the official instructions, it has been made compulsory for students to take part in the Ganga cleanliness programme.
