The UP Transport Department has devised a strategy to engage thousands of young unemployed people in the state. Under this scheme, the department will be initiating 600 Automobile Pollution Testing Centres at the tehsil level, in all the 75 districts of the state, including Lucknow. These centres will keep a check on the problems pertaining to toxic smoke being released from the plying vehicles. High school graduates will be eligible for this programme.
1,000 youth with a high school pass certificate to be directly involved
As per reports, it is being said that 1,000 youth with a high school pass certificate will be directly involved in this project. Furthermore, an increment in the income of more than 10,000 people engaged in the maintenance of these centres, will be directly proportional to the boost in the production of pollution testing machines, that are to be installed here. The related department has already finalized the preparations to establish these 600 centres.
The department is trying to blanket the maximum count of unemployed people under this scheme and it is making necessary arrangements to issue PUC certificates, by opening pollution checking centres in every area. At present, there are only 75 pollution control centres in Lucknow while the number of vehicles has exceeded 2.5 million.
Private areas have also been granted permission to house pollution checking centres
Earlier, the National Green Tribunal had earlier voiced their apprehensions over the swelling pollution tallies in the state, after which the Transport Department drafted a new scheme to open more and more pollution testing centres in the state. As yet, only a few selected institutions including petrol pumps and recognized garages, were allowed to open pollution checking centres. But now, private areas have also been granted permission to house PCCs.
Any person complying with the issued terms and conditions will be able to open a pollution checking centre and issue a PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate. Any person, NGO, trust, firm, company, public company and people related to partnership, amid others, can apply online on the portal prepared by the Transport Department. To ensure seamless execution of schemes and ideas, new provisions have been made in the Uttar Pradesh Online Motor Vehicle Pollution Scheme Check Centre-2020.
