Supported by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Lucknow’s Haj House is being converted into a 225-bed temporary COVID centre, to shoulder the burden piling on the city’s medical infrastructures. All preparations are being conducted in full swing here, to ensure that this treatment facility is up and functional by next week. This centre in Sarojini Nagar will function as a level 3 treatment centre, creating a critical care provision for several patients amid a severe crunch of hospital beds.
From Haj House to a COVID hospital, in just another week!
The developmental works of converting Haj House into a COVID facility is running at the top-most gear. This centre has arranged for ICU beds and machines, high-dependency beds and other medical equipment to facilitate treatment to critical COVID patients. As per reports, the Haj House facility will accommodate 100 high-flow nasal cannulas supports and 25 ventilators for the benefit of the admitted patients.
All pipes and fittings to ensure sufficient oxygen supply, have been installed here. Oxygen cylinders and other equipment required to set up a dedicated oxygen generation plant have also been lined up and will soon be put together. The centre is being revamped to stand as a high-tech COVID L-3 centre, with several power-run equipment and services. Hence, efforts are being made to ensure that the Haj House has a continuous electric supply and does not face any grid cuts.

The entire facility will be fully air-conditioned and will be divided into several wards to ensure a distinguished treatment based on symptoms and severity of the virus. A kitchen will also be established to look after the meals of the medical team, staff and paramedics stationed at the centre. As of now, the structure is undergoing general maintenance work, such as whitewashing and cleaning, to maximise the hygiene and cleanliness quotient before welcoming the patients.
