After 104 years of its establishment, Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad is set to introduce its first-ever Commerce programmes starting in the 2025 academic year. This expansion of academic offerings marks a historic step for the university.
The university’s governing body recently decided to launch the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) programme, which will initially admit 60 students through an entrance examination. The new department will be named Maniben Mahavidyalaya to honour Maniben Patel, the daughter of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and an alumnus of Gujarat Vidyapith.
Founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920, the university currently offers a Bachelor’s in Computer Applications (BCA). It has not previously provided traditional programmes like BCom, MCom, and BBA. The introduction of these programmes comes in response to the growing need for commerce education in Gujarat, a key commercial hub.
Further details on the entrance test and admission process will be shared after Class 12 results. This move not only honours Maniben Patel’s legacy but also strengthens the university’s commitment to providing relevant education.
