Ahead of the much awaited ‘Swachh survey’, roads in Indore are getting a makeover with beautifully sculpted flower pots and the entire city seems greener!

Placed along foot paths and on dividers these pots are sculpted like buds and blooming flowers. Potted with shrubs and flowering plants, these represent Indore’s final touches to all the preparations the city has been doing for winning the coveted swachh title third time in a row.
If you live in Indore, or have been keeping up with recent news, and haven’t been living under a rock for the last three-four years, you definitely must be aware of the fact that people of Indore are very serious about cleanliness. People in Indore care about their localities, they care about the streets and they care about nature, but most of all Indoreans are ready to take the leap and work hard for their goals. From composting to cleaning thousands of tons of garbage, Indore has done it all and is still putting ten times the effort any other city is putting in the cleanliness drive.

Indore, the industrial capital of Madhya Pradesh is the undisputed two times winner of the cleanest city in India title. The kind of passion people in Indore have for cleanliness can only be understood after knowing about the steps they have taken and the lengths the public has gone to, to make the city cleaner and their lives more healthy.
The government, the municipal corporation, local leaders, and people in general have shouldered the responsibility to change the city and it is apparent in the pace at which the city is progressing.

Over 40,000 houses in Indore have started composting, the Indore Municipal Corporation is working day and night to make people aware about segregating their waste, recycling and living a sustainable life. The government is running campaigns, investing in expensive advertisements for awareness and sending trucks to collect garbage from every household. The walls, fly-overs and old buildings are being painted over with murals, public toilets are being beautified and common people have voluntarily taken to the streets to help the government and authorities in changing the face of their city.

It is very seldom seen that people, government and authorities come together collectively as a community and decide to focus on a shared goal, but the swachh inspection has made it a reality in Indore. It is this sheer focus that made it possible for the city to get rid of 11 lakh ton of garbage that was dumped on the trenching grounds and completely change it into a place of beauty. And the best part? The dry plastic waste is going to be used to produce 3-4 thousand liters of diesel everyday.
A commendable approach to cleanliness indeed.
Let’s hope that Indore wins the ‘Swachh’ title once again and continues to work towards the goal of living a clean and sustainable life.
