Jaipur & 11 other Raj districts to witness power outage from today due to coal shortage

Rajasthan is the first state in the country to officially formulate an electricity outage due to the ongoing power crisis.

Due to the nationwide shortage of coal, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) has announced power cuts across 12 districts in Rajasthan, including Jaipur, from today onwards. According to the announcement on Friday, municipal areas will have to face an hour-long power cut every day while a daily outage of four hours is scheduled for rural areas in these districts. Rajasthan is the first state in the country to officially formulate an electricity outage due to the ongoing power crisis.

Outage not applicable to district headquarters

As per the announcement by Jaipur Discom, Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Kota, Bundi, Baran Jhalawar, Sawaimadhopur, Tonk and Karauli will face the power cuts from today. However, all the district headquarters will be exempted from this. Reportedly this step has been taken, in view of the decreased power generation due to the scarcity of coal in thermal power stations

Power cut scheduled between 4-5 PM in Jaipur

As per the reports, a power cut is scheduled between 4-5 PM in the Nagar Palikas of Jaipur and Dausa district circle. Additionally, the municipalities of Bharatpur, Karouli, Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi and Baran will face the outage between 5-6 PM. Navin Arora, the Managing Director of JVVNL has urged the public to reduce the load on the system by using sunlight during the day and avoid using electronic machines like air conditioners as well.

In line with this announcement, Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (AVVNL) has also declared a 2-hour outage in the urban areas of 11 districts in the state, except their district headquarters. According to the reports, the rural areas of these districts will face a 6-hour power cut, starting today. Purportedly, Ajmer, Sikar, Udaipur Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Banswara, Rajasmand, Pratapgarh, and Dungarpur will face the 2-hour outage between 7 AM-12 PM or 3-6 PM.

It is expected that the officials will notify once the electricity generation is back on track. Given the crisis situation, citizens must also aid the officials by reducing their power consumption.
