The alarming escalation of pollution in the National Capital Territory of Delhi has always been a cause of concern, however, an effective battle has now been waged by IIT-Kanpur to curb and control it, systematically. The premier institute, under the authority of the Delhi Government, has joined forces with IIT-Delhi and TERI to implement a technology that will help identify the factors of pollution, in real-time. These can be then tackled by targetted techniques for best results.

The Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur and Delhi, in association with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have formulated a novel technology to trace real-time pollutants, plaguing the Delhi environment. As per reports, a research study was conducted by the three institutes to ascertain the sources of pollution in the NCT. Factors such as vehicular emissions, dust, smoke and commercial pollution can be pinned for the deteriorating air quality and the technology will help ascertain the root cause, at a place, in a given point of time.
As a pilot project, a super site and mobile site will be installed at a location to detect the source of pollution occurring in real-time. The machine will then record the causes and degree of pollution to generate results. The output can be then be used by concerned authorities, accordingly, to devise and implement pollution control measures.
The Delhi Chief Minister stated that this information will help the government to launch and exercise immediate corrective measures to arrest the level of population. IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Delhi and TERI will help the region to arrest the pollutant rise, through pointed research. The Delhi CM also added that after the cabinet approval, the task of implementation will be handed over to IIT-Kanpur, under the leadership of Professor Mukesh Sharma.

Besides this, the Delhi Government is employing several techniques to counter pollution rise. Recently, the administration launched the electric vehicle policy for the same. Adopting the new technological approach, an impactful drive can be launched against pollution in Delhi, eliminating pollutant sources, stated the Chief Minister.
