Gearing up to welcome the first metro trains, the Polytechnic Depot of Kanpur Metro is being equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and other machines. Recently, the 'Fully Automatic CNC Under Floor Pit Wheel Lathe Machine' was set up at the campus, which would help to upkeep and repair the metro wheels. The speed at which new developments are taking place, only point towards the timely completion of the Kanpur Metro. Once completed, the facility shall surely bring great respite to daily commuters in the city.
Interventions being worked out to install 6 more machines
As per reports, the authorities have also initiated plans for installing six more machines. It is expected that all these machines will be present at the facility by the end of this month. Reportedly, a UPMRC official apprised that the wheels are prone to losing their configuration in the system due to repetitive brakes and friction. Thereby, the machine becomes an important tool to maintain the workability of the wheels.
Apart from this, a fully automatic synchronised pit jack machine, fully automatic synchronised mobile jack, bogey turn table, automatic train wash plant, re-railing & rescue vehicle and electric bogey shunter will be set up. With the realisation of the plans, the facility will be sufficiently resourced for the arrival of metro compartments.
Tracks beam erected along the stretch from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel
As per reports, track beams have been established at all 9 stations of the maiden corridor of Kanpur Metro, linking IIT Kanpur to Motijheel. While the other 8 stations had received this facility previously, the establishment of the track beam at Motijheel station was completed on Saturday.
Besides this, tracks have been laid from IIT to Kalyanpur metro station and the works related to signaling, lighting have also been accelerated, amongst other things. Given the pace the project, it can be said that the UPMRC officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the service gets commissioned as per the anticipated timeline.
