The prominent Adani Group is all set to unveil what is touted to being South Asia’s largest ammunition plant in UP’s Kanpur. The plant, to be inaugurated next month this year, will act as an important leaf on the Indian defence landscape and will bring Uttar Pradesh on the forefront in the particular sector. The mega development comes after Adani Defence and Aerospace produced Indian-origin drones for the Navy.
Kanpur will see the huge plant sprawling over 250 acres. It will, in the first phase, commence with small arms ammunition production. This will include 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm bullets.
More about the crucial project
Initially, the plant will focus on producing 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm bullets, catering to the ammunition needs of assault rifles and carbines. This aligns with the Indian government’s push for domestic production of critical weaponry.

The initial phase, budgeted at ₹1,500 crore, will further expand into future plans of producing a wide variety of ammunition, including artillery shells and possibly missiles. The overall aim is to propel domestic production of crucial weaponry in India to achieve self-reliance in the same.
If all goes according to the plan, the Kanpur facility will not only be the beginning of a reliable domestic defense manufacturing unit but will also shake out tons of employment opportunities in the region.
