A surge in the number of coronavirus cases has been reported in Lucknow, once again. The district on Thursday furnished 77 new cases and added to the state’s total tally of 2,217 active cases. The recent case spike has been observed after a gap of almost two months and has moved the authorities to issue fresh appeal to people, to follow safety protocols.
Lucknow’s defence protocol against COVID-19
Lucknow is scaling up its defence, to restrict any further transmission of coronavirus. While an antigen test has been made mandatory at all railway stations, airports and bust stations across UP, inspections are in full swing by authorities too, to ensure that these safety measures are being followed diligently. On arrival, all passengers have to give an account of their names and address, to ease the process of contact tracing in any emergency.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Lucknow issued a notification on March 19 in view of the recent COVID-19 surge. The order reinforces all established prevention norms and guidelines at establishments and offices alike. At the same time, face masks have been made compulsory in the state capital.
The guidelines also entail that those without masks will not be permitted to enter any establishment in the city. Help desks will also be established on the premises at all big institutes here which need to ensure that all visitors are sanitised at the entrance. People also need to maintain social distancing at public places to maximise safety against the virus contraction.
UP has administered 33 lakh ‘precious’ vaccinations since January
On Thursday, the CM presided over a high-level meeting to release preventive guidelines to stop the spread of the deadly virus. He directed officials to increase RTPCR testing in the state while testing passengers at all entry and exit points, across all districts in view of the panchayat elections and the upcoming Holi festival.
He also said the surveillance teams and contract tracing are a vital part state’s strategy to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and directed all Covid hospitals in the state to remain active. In a populous state like UP, contact tracing teams have reached out to a population of 18 crore, which needs to be fastened and strengthened, he added. Besides tracing, testing and treatment, the CM stated that it must be ensured that beneficiaries are getting the vaccine shot on the scheduled date of vaccination.
Describing the Covid-19 vaccine as ‘precious’, the Chief Minister said that it must be ensured that not a single vial of vaccine is wasted. Uttar Pradesh has become the only state to conduct about 33 lakh vaccination. Officials have also been directed to ensure that the people adhere to all other norms, such as wearing a mask, maintaining an optimum 6 feet distance and regular sanitisation, to constrain COVID growth.
