Mumbai witnessed its highest September rainfall in four years, with the Santacruz observatory recording 170 mm in 24 hours—from 8:30 am on September 25 to 8:30 am on September 26. This is also the fourth highest rainfall in September in last 10 years! This event brought the month’s total to 510 mm, surpassing the average by 150.4 mm.
Previously, the record for the most rainfall in a single day during September was set in 2017, with 303.7 mm, followed by 286.4 mm in 2020 and 242.2 mm in 2019.
The heavy rain has been attributed to a cyclonic circulation over North Konkan. As per reposts, the downpours are likely to ease over the weekend.
