Estimated to stretch over a length of 1,380 km, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is all set to be the longest expressway in the country. Connecting the national capital with the financial capital of India, the expressway would halve the time of commute between the two cities from about 24 hours to 12.5 hours, reportedly. Besides, the upcoming establishment will also reduce the distance by 130 Km, benefitting the regular commuters in a number of ways.

As per reports, the Union Transport Minister recently reviewed the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which is being built at an approximate cost of ₹ 98,000 crores. Reportedly, this facility will pass through the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. While the project was approved in 2018, the foundation stone was laid on March 9, 2019.
The stretch of the expressway have been divided into parts and the contracts of different sections are being assigned to different agencies. As per reports, the lenghth of 1,200 km out of 1,380 km is already assigned to variedconstruction firms. As stated by the Road Transport and Highway Ministry, the expressway will also meet urban regions of NCR via the stretch of Delhi-Faridabad-Sohna.
It will also ensure improved connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar and Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai. Additionally, the expressway will also help in fuelling economic progress across different districts like Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore through better integration with the top metropolitan cities.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is Asia’s first and the world’s second highway to encapsulate animal overpasses, for a free movement of pastures and wildlife. As per the NHAI directory, the expressway will generate an annual fuel saving of over 320 million litres and reduce CO2 transmissions by 850 million kg. In addition to this, more than 2 million trees and shrubs will be planted along the highway
As per reports, the expressway will have 94 way-side amenities (WSA) like petrol pumps, guest houses, restrooms, restaurants and medical shops. Besides, the plans also include construction of helipads at these way-side spots, that will improve connectivity and evacuate individuals, in case of a medical emergency.

The expressway will also introduce two special 8-laned tunnels which will be symbols of the counrty’s intellectual prowess. As per reporsts, one tunnel will pass through the Mukundra sanctuary of Rajasthan for 4 kms and the other would pass through Matheran eco-sensitive region in Maharashtra.
Notably, this project has helped in the creation of thousands of job opportunities for trained civil engineers and other sections of the workforce. As per reports, it is expected that the scheme will reach its completion soon and the expressway will be available for the commuters by March 2023.
