While soaking up the relaxing cadence of crashing waves at one of Mumbai’s beach, no one wants to think about how the ocean has basically become a garbage soup. Or how the city’s air quality is deteriorating gradually and how the landfills are increasing in size every day!
So, this World Nature Conservation Day on July 28, we’ve decided to focus the spotlight on Bandra-based Bhamla Foundation – an NGO that has tirelessly been working for a healthier tomorrow, since 1998.
Bhamla Foundation
The Bhamla Foundation, presided by Asif Bhamla, had its origins as a modest cultural outfit called ‘I Love Bandra’, in 1998. Over time, its scope expanded to address important concerns in the realms of Sociology, Humanity, and Environment. Bhamla also has tie-ups with orphanages and homes for the aged, within their scope of work.
Further, through steady action all year round, Bhamla Foundation has been working to ensure a brighter future for our beautiful planet. The foundation initially took off by conducting social activities in Mumbai Suburbs, aiming to spread awareness.
Along the way, they’ve come up with catchy initiatives and slogans, such as #HawaAaneDe, #TikTikPlastic, and #DhakkDhakkDharti. Their digital reach has crossed millions with participants from all over the country.

Recently, Bhamla Foundation took on a mission to spread awareness around plastic use. Various Bollywood celebrities such as Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Raveena Tandon, Gunnet Monga, Ricky Kej and Gulzar Sahab, played a part in Bhamla’s video to highlight plastic alternatives.
Truly, in hindsight, ninety per cent of the plastic items in our daily lives are used once and then chucked, such as polythene bags, plastic wraps, disposable cutlery, straws, and beverage containers. Take note of how often you rely on these products and replace them with reusable versions for environmental well-being.
Go Green, Breathe Clean!
The foundation has grown over time, and today it boasts of over 18,000 patrons spread across India, working in the fields of health, sociology, child rehabilitation, woman empowerment and environmental sustainability.
So, this World Nature Conservation Day let’s join our hands to protect the environment and do our bit. Switch off lights before leaving the room, use paper straws, carry jute bags for vegetable shopping, purchase secondhand items, and refrain from buying water bottles.
