The flyover connecting Bandra Kurla Complex to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, inaugurated on February 23, 2023, has been closed for urgent repairs due to severe potholes. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has imposed a hefty fine of ₹50 lakhs on the contractor, J Kumar Infraprojects, with an additional ₹10 lakhs per day the flyover remains closed.

This is not the first time the contractor has faced penalties for this project. In 2022, they were fined ₹1 crore for safety lapses leading to a collapse during construction. The project consultants, PADECO, have also been issued notices, and an MMRDA deputy engineer faces a show cause notice.
The 1.25 km long, 8-meter wide ramp’s poor condition highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in Mumbai, raising questions about construction quality and maintenance practices.
