June 5 morning in Mumbai unveiled a surprise as the city experienced its inaugural pre-monsoon showers, offering a reprieve from the heat and humidity. As Mumbaikars woke up to a cloudy sky, the day gradually unfolded with light rains gracing select neighbourhoods between 7-8 AM.
Areas like Dadar, Kandivali, Magathane, Oshiwara, Wadala, Ghatkopar witnessed rainfall ranging from 4 mm to 26 mm, as confirmed by civic authorities. Additionally, pockets of central and south Mumbai also received light showers.
Weather agency, Skymet was noted saying that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance further over the Konkan region. It is expected to make a timely onset over Mumbai with light to moderate pre-monsoon showers over the next 3-4 days.
As per authorities, despite the rain, road traffic and trains services continue to run normally in Mumbai.
