As per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the second underground tunnel of Mumbai Coastal Road (6.25 km) is gearing up to welcome commuters, starting this Tuesday (tomorrow). This north-bound route, extending from Marine Drive and covering areas like Lotus Jetty and Haji Ali Chowk, will be inaugurated by the state’s Chief Minister today, June 10, following a thorough inspection.

As per reports, this road will be open for traffic from 7 am to 11 pm (Monday to Friday), providing connectivity between Marine Drive and key landmarks like Bhulabhai Desai Marg, Barrister Rajni Patel Chowk (Lotus Jetty), and Vatsalabai Desai Chowk (Haji Ali Chowk).
After entering the underground tunnel from Marine Drive, one can exit at Amarsons Park via the interchange. However, buckle up for a pit stop on weekends, as the crew is yet to complete the remaining 10% work.
To further facilitate northbound travel, the next phase of the Coastal Road up to Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli is planned to be opened by July 10, with ongoing works in that direction. Moreover, the remaining 4 km will be opened during the final phase in October-November, this year.
The Southbound Route from Worli to Marine Drive, which was opened for traffic on March 11, has provided significant benefits to the city’s residents. Now, flagging off the completed portion for the public is expected to reduce the traffic load and make commuting faster for Mumbaikars.
