PETA India's latest campaign in  Lucknow urges people to not buy caged birds

In an attempt to highlight the need for a free life for birds, PETA India rolled out an awareness initiative in the city. As per this scheme, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India is installing billboards near the bird markets in Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. In Lucknow, the board with the advertisement has been set up at King George's Medical University, which lies very close to the Nakhass bird market.

Over 100 crore saplings to be nurtured in UP for plantation drives next year!

With large-scale plantation drives in the past, Uttar Pradesh has been forging ahead towards its dream of expanding the green cover in the state. Notably, over 30 crore saplings were planted this year and now, the state government has set the target of planting 35 crore saplings in 2022. In line with this objective, nurseries with a total of nearly 100 crore plants will be nurtured by the Forest Department of the state

International Tiger Day 2021: Rescue centres to come up in 4 cities of Uttar Pradesh!

In a bid to protect and conserve tigers, 4 new rescue centres have been proposed, that will come up in UP's Pilibhit, Meerut, Maharajganj and Chitrakut. As per reports, a rewilding centre will also be established and the central government has approved the project. Reportedly, each rescue facility will be set up at an approximate cost of ₹4.90 crores and the state administration will receive these funds from Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management & Planning Authority(CAMPA).

25.5 crore saplings planted in UP on Sunday as part of a mega plantation drive

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a mega plantation drive on Sunday, wherein around 25.5 crore saplings were planted in a single day! This step has been taken with the aim of expanding the state's overall forest cover, which presently stands at 3.05% against the national average of 2.89%. Reportedly, the UP government targets to plant 30 crore saplings in July.

Pollution levels beyond 'permissible limits' in capitals like Lucknow & Mumbai, despite lockdown

An analysis released on Wednesday by Climate Trends, a Delhi-based climate communications initiative, showed that pollution in many regions remained above the permissible limits, despite the lockdown. This research included major capital cities and further, alarming PM concentration levels were noticed in Lucknow, Mumbai and Delhi.
The analysis was prepared by researchers who compared air quality data during the lockdown period in Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Kolkata, as stated by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
