Unique Indori style of appreciation!
While usually, sportsmen are honoured by naming stadiums or stands after them, however, the cleanest city of India has a unique Indori style of appreciating its idols. Ahead of the nail-biting IPL finale this Friday, let us revisit the two famous statues of Indore, built as a tribute to the Indian cricket team.
Vijay Balla
The Vijay Balla also known as the Victory Bat is a giant concrete bat erected near the Holkar Stadium in a park across the Old Nehru stadium, in Indore. This humungous sculpture was built to commemorate India's first victory over England and West Indies in away Test series. This huge model of bat was inaugurated in the year 2009 by Ajit Wadekar, who was the captain of the winning side. The bat has inscriptions of legendary Indian crickets including Bishan Singh Bedi, Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, Ajit Wadekar and Sunil Gavaskar among others.
World Cup Trophy Statue
To commemorate the victory of Indian cricket team in the World Cup 2011, Indore Development Authority constructed a statue of the World Cup trophy in the honour of the Indian cricket team. This giant 30-feet tall statue that sits on a 5-feet pedestal was unveiled in the year 2014. Made by local sculptors Mahendra Kodwani and Ajay Punyasi, this model was reportedly built in a year. Placed at Pipliyahana Square, this statue shows the love and enthusiasm that the people of Indore have for the sport.

Did you know? Ever since the construction of the World Cup Trophy Statue, the Pipliyahana Square is more commonly known as the World Cup Square! Going by these facts, it won't be an exaggeration to say that Indore surely knows how to throw exceptionally grand gestures as tributes!
