A new feature has been added to the Railway Police’s GRP MP Help mobile application. Women passengers can now send an SOS on the app in case of emergencies. The application that is already dedicated to resolving passengers’ complaints will now provide quick emergency assistance to female passengers journeying alone.
Dedicated teams for instant help
As per the officials, a special team called Quick Investigation Response Team (QIRT) for women’s safety has also been formed. As soon as a female passenger sends out an SOS on the app, these teams will attend to the passenger at their dedicated seat. To ensure that the railway police are already aware of the female passengers travelling solo, a lists of female passengers will be created seperately.
These passengers will be met at their seats and will be told about the emergency facility. The feature will also ensure that the passengers’ journey is not interrupted in case they want to file a complaint. These complaints can be filed while the concerned passenger is on board. Along with that, the app will also provide the contact details of the train guard on board.
Women’s safety, a priority for the railway police
Approximately, 100 women travel alone to and from Indore railway station on a regular basis. Considering this, a facility like this is much called for. As per the officials, in case of emergencies, the facility can also be availed by men. However, the new feature prioritises providing safety to women commuting alone on trains.
