Cyclonic circulation brings relief to Ahmedabad heat
A new cyclonic circulation active in North Gujarat and surrounding areas caused a drop in temperatures in Ahmedabad. On Wednesday, the temperature fell by 3°C to 38°C, marking the first time in 35 days it had reached this level.
The Meteorological Department forecasts continued cooling over the next four to five days due to increased pre-monsoon activity. On Wednesday, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 38°C and a minimum of 29.2°C.
City Police to crack down on vehicles without registration plates from June 21
In a move to bolster security ahead of the upcoming Rath Yatra and enhance overall citizen safety, the City Crime Branch of Ahmedabad will start seizing vehicles without registration plates or even without proper registration plates starting June 21.
This initiative aims to prevent incidents like serial blasts, which have historically involved stolen vehicles with missing or fake number plates.
School transport resumes as operators call off strike
Private school vans and autorickshaws in Ahmedabad resumed their services on Wednesday after a two-day strike by the Ahmedabad School Vardhi Association ended. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) authorities granted operators a 45-60 day window to complete the process of obtaining vehicle fitness certificates and permits.
Although during this period, drivers will be held accountable for any incidents involving their vehicles, with strict enforcement of regulations.
SVPI Airport conducts comprehensive emergency mock drill
On Wednesday, SVPI Airport in Ahmedabad conducted a mock drill as part of its emergency preparedness strategy. The exercise, which spanned from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, aimed to ensure the swift and efficient coordination of various agencies during an emergency.
Over 800 participants, including city police, fire brigade, NDRF teams, CISF personnel, airline representatives, local hospitals, Red Cross officials, and other central government agencies, took part in the drill. This collaborative effort, planned meticulously over the past three months, simulated an emergency aircraft landing.
Riverfront extension to boost connectivity and reduce traffic
Ahmedabad’s Riverfront is set to expand by 22 km, reaching up to the Pethapur thermal power plant in Gandhinagar. The project, which will be carried out in five stages (Phases 3 to 7), aims to enhance connectivity between various areas and alleviate traffic congestion.
Upon completion, the riverfront will span a total of 38.5 km, making it the world’s longest riverfront.
