One of Asia’s most popular and awaited EDM festivals, the 14th edition of the Sunburn Festival is set to take place in Goa’s Vagator, in the month of December. This fest has returned with limited capacity this time due to the pandemic and a set of COVID-19 protocols have been chalked out for the attendees. The three-day fest will be held from December 27 and conclude on the December 29. But this announcement has received severe flak from netizens, as this gathering contradicts the present gravity of the ongoing pandemic. Netizens have also mocked the ‘Live Again’ tagline, which comes at a time when we’re supposed to be within the confines of our homes as much as possible.
Sunburn 2020 Protocols to be followed
1. No entry without Aarogya Setu app check/scan
2. Wearing a face mask is compulsory throughout the festival
3. Social distancing is to be maintained at all times
4. All entry procedures to be followed – temperature check, sanitisation and security frisking
5. Entry permitted into the event as per time slots selected, no crowding at gates, toilets, F&B area or any other common areas
6. A negative COVID-19 test report may be required depending upon government regulations at the time

All the concert attendees will have to present the Aarogya Setu app for scanning, to gain entry into the festival venue. Along with being a limited capacity event, the fest organizers will ensure social distancing measures through the creation of PODs and Designated Areas across the venue in Vagator. Every attendee will have their designated space in front of the main stage and there will be new entry and exit protocols.
It will be mandatory for all the present individuals to wear face masks during the entire course of the festival and provisions will be available for regular thermal scanning, hand wash and sanitizers for guests across the fest ground. The music fest will also be live streamed, for people who cannot be present on ground.
Karan Singh, Chief Operating Officer at Percept Live, creators of Sunburn, was quoted saying, “COVID-19 literally put pause on life. In India, we have witnessed stringent lockdown measures since March 2020. With the Unlock procedures initiated and specially Unlock 5 permitting ground events, we figured it’s time to restart lives, time to live again, and most importantly live, love and dance again’. Sunburn Goa 2020 will be a limited capacity, super safe event following global best practices and all applicable guidelines. Fan Safety is our top priority.”
The line-up of the fest is not out yet but tickets will be up for grabs from the 4th of November. This year, there’ll be no day-wise ticket system. VIP tickets will be available in pods of 4, 6 and 8 and Diamond and Platinum (VVIP) tables will be available in pods of 8, 10, 12 and 15. They also won’t be providing wristbands this year. Those interested in being here, must book their tickets at least a week before the festival and the tickets will be delivered to the address, entered during the time of booking.
