Animal lovers will soon have an enhanced experience at Indore Zoo with the striking visuals of a new species of fauna. Reportedly, Indore Zoo authorities have initiated plans for welcoming African Zebras to the animal shelter. Under the animal exchange program, a pair of African Zebras will be transported from Mumbai’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Zoo to the facility in Indore. As per reports, Mumbai zoo will receive the animals from Israel and the entire process may take 2-3 months.
New home being set up for the zebras at the zoo!
It is noteworthy that no other facility in the state of Madhya Pradesh houses this special breed of zebras. Reportedly, the in-charge of Indore Zoo, Dr. Uttam Yadav stated that usual proceedings are halted at the zoo due to the pandemic but the officials have started working on this project to bring the new entrants. Additionally, a designated home for the zebras is being established at the zoo premises. It is to be noted that the admission of the animals requires special permission from the central zoo authority.
Thus, it can be expected that the plan would speed up after the meeting of the zoo authority. As per reports, three pairs of zebras will be welcomed at the Mumbai zoo and thereafter, one pair shall be shifted to the shelter in Indore.
Over 60 species of animals housed at the zoo!
Reportedly, Dr. Yadav informed that the zoo contains more than 600 animals from over 60 species, including elephant Moti and 11 lions. Now, the zebras would amplify the diversity at the zoo and heighten its tourism potential. Attractive in appearance, the African zebras thrive in groups and have a life span of nearly 19-20 years.
