For the second year in a row, Lucknow stands shrouded amidst the raging effects of pandemic and multifarious predicaments that have stalled the lives of city residents. In a strong-willed move to rescue the citizens stranded by the ongoing circumstances, a group of college students have shouldered the responsibilities of assuring needed assistance to the affected individuals. Through their organisation-‘Sashakt Welfare Society’, they have launched a comprehensive list of welfare schemes!
Multiple welfare programs in collaboration with Sadar Gurudwara, Lucknow
Observing the difficulties suffered by the deprived and debilitated sections of the society, the idea of the Sashakt Welfare Society was incepted during the pandemic itself. Encouraged by a spirit of service, the group started operations in September 2020 and the NGO subsequently got registered in December 2020. Through the first months of existence, the society worked for the welfare of downtrodden individuals assuring supplies of essential items for them like ration.
After the second wave hit the city, the motivated volunteers have converged their efforts towards ensuring hastened accessibility of hospital beds and other medical resources, to everyone in need. Further, the organisation has marked a collaboration with Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Sadar Gurudwara for free food distribution, free hearse van services and free RT PCR testing facilities. Speaking to Knocksense, the NGO founder Anand Narayan informed that the members of the society are providing required aid and logistical support in all these welfare interventions.
Additionally, the group has initiated a scheme called ‘EK Tukda Pyar Ka’ for feeding the street dogs. In the past, they have had zoom meetings with COVID patients with an objective to provide emotional support to them and now, they are conducting ‘gratitude meditation’ sessions every Sunday with the help of a trained counseling psychologist. Given the scope of their measures, it is clear that the conglomerate envisions helping the citizens from the dire effects of the pandemic, in all possible ways!
Aims to set up oxygen beds & facilitate vaccination of underprivileged
After achieving significant success in their first plans, Sashakt now envisions expanding the scale of its operations. Marked with associative efforts, the youth-led organisation will set up 20 oxygen beds in the upcoming days.
In addition to this, a specific drive shall be conducted to assist all such under-equipped individuals, who are unable to procure vaccination slots. Naved Farooqui, General Secretary of the NGO said, “Besides educating the disadvantaged sections of the society about the need and importance of vaccination, we will also help in the registration process and get the bookings done on their behalf.”

While the NGO has identified multiple areas of need and proposed dedicated projects therein, it is encountering a crunch of funds to implement extensive plans.
