Weather conditions across Kanpur, Lucknow and other nearby districts in UP have been influenced by Tauktae, a cyclone that has originated from the Arabian Sea. Owing to the influenced weather conditions, the minimum temperature has fallen by 7 degrees and registered at 23°C in Kanpur, presently. According to weather experts at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), the weather conditions will remain the same for the next 24-48 hours, supposedly.
Heavy showers in May due to Tauktae
The changes in weather conditions in Kanpur are being noticed since last Friday night, when the city received a rainfall of 22.4 mm. Sporadic showers have been observed across the city due to Cyclone Tauktae since then and this condition has been magnified since yesterday, i.e., 18 May- the date that marks the full-blown arrival of Tauktae.
The high-speed winds have already destroyed several active weather instruments owing to which the threat from Tauktae has multiplied. The Weather Department at CSA University had predicted that 30 mm of rainfall will be received between 18 May to 20 May. However, in only two days the rainfall received in Kanpur has crossed the 26.8 mm mark.
Further, as per the latest reports, Kanpur is yet to receive 10-15 mm of rainfall and similar conditions will be observed in other nearby districts of UP, including the capital, Lucknow. According to weather experts, any type of cyclone can influence weather conditions. Hence, due to Tauktae, the pre-monsoon weather conditions that mark the month of May, have experienced a shift of great magnitude.
Cyclone adding to the troubles of pandemic
Cyclone Tauktae has flipped the weather conditions across Kanpur, Lucknow and other UP districts, which has only added to the burden of the state amid the second swell of the pandemic. Red alerts have been issued across other states, like Rajasthan and Gujarat, as well. We advise residents to stay indoors and stay safe.
