With the completion of all construction work, Lucknow’s Charak flyover located in the Chowk area will be commissioned for the public soon. Extending over a length of 2.5 kilometres, the 3 lane facility has been set up at an approximate cost of ₹110 crores. While the implementation of the scheme began in October 2018, it took 3 years to finish the establishment works and now, it will dissolve the regular traffic jams at one of the city’s most prominent areas.
Over 2 lakh commuters from areas of old Lucknow to be benefitted
Connecting Victoria Street to Haiderganj crossing, the new flyover will alleviate the issues of one of the city’s most crowded areas. According to the authorities of Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, over 2 lakh commuters will be benefitted from the latest development. It is expected that the flyover with resolve the traffic situation, ushering advantages for the citizens of Nakhas, Kashmiri Gate and Haiderganj Tiraha.
Previously, the delays in getting the NOC from the Archaeological Department halted the project for a long period but the project was speeded up after that. Post a pause of around 6 months, the plans were revived in June.
A move to decongest the crowded lanes of Chowk
Once the new flyover is made functional, vehicles bound for King George Medical University will be benefitted from a reduction in travel time. Taking the route of the flyover, a large count of travellers will be able to escape the crowded lanes of Chowk. While this development ushers a range of advantages, the growing city population calls for a better road infrastructure and multiple similar interventions in the future.
