Scaling up conservation measures in the Pink City, Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage has prepared a framework to mend and refurbish the heritage wall. As per reports, the civic body will revive the battered wall and initiate measures for revamping the encroachment-free section of the wall. Reportedly, one-third of the total length of the wall is free from encroachments and now, this part will be improved and strengthened with the help of streamlined steps.
Financial approval awaited for this project
While reports state that the wall extends for a total length of 18 km, only 6 km is part of the current plan. The remaining section of the wall has been encroached upon by thousands of individuals and it will be a long and arduous task to ensure its availability for renovation. As per reports, a senior official informed that the project has been forwarded to higher authorities for financial sanctions and it is expected that the works will begin soon after that.
A move to conserve the city’s historic heritage
Reportedly, the renovation of this wall has found a mention in UNESCO’s list and efforts need to be undertaken for removing the encroachments. Further, reports state that JMC Heritage had received aid for transforming the wall into an encroachment-free spot but related plans could not be materialised. Given that the area is occupied by a large number of people, well-structured plans are required for revamping it.
Besides, the wall has been hit hard by the ravages of time and a large part of it stands destroyed. Thus, it has become important to protect and conserve it for preserving the city’s heritage.
