Strengthening the medical infrastructure in the state, Uttar Pradesh is all set to get its second express trauma centre at GSVM college in Kanpur. Proposed to be established on the G.T. Road side of Hallet Hospital, this 5-storeyed complex shall be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Reportedly, the centre with 200 beds, will be built at a cost of ₹273 crores.
New trauma centre to expand the available facilities for severe cases
With an increase in the number of vehicles in the city, Kanpur is witnessing amplified rates of road accidents. As of now, Hallet Hospital caters to severe cases from Kanpur and 16 nearby districts. For handling such emergency cases, the level-2 trauma centre in the hospital has 20 beds and one operation theatre, which is not sufficient. Taking cognisance of this situation, the construction of the new trauma centre has been planned. As per reports, the new establishment will be sponsored by the National Health Mission.
Directives issued for preparing the framework of the plan
Reportedly, Prof. Arti Lalchandani, the then principal of the college, had requested the central government in 2019 to establish an advanced trauma centre in the institute’s premises. Recently, the current principal, Prof. R.B. Kamal has re-initiated the talks. In regards to this, the Chief Minister has asked for a preliminary report from the District Magistrate.
On Monday, the chief authority visited the land on the G.T. Road side to examine the state of affairs. During the inspection, the DM was accompanied by other top district officials. As per reports, directives have been issued to prepare a framework of the construction plan of the complex as well.
Keeping this project on priority, the state government is involved in continuous deliberations with the central government. After the basic details are finalised, all amendments shall be incorporated into the new plan. If the proposals turn into reality, the medical setup of the state expects an upgrade soon.
