Ahmedabad Police stations have installed CCTV cameras in all Police Inspector (PI) chambers, ensuring 24-hour surveillance of the activities. This move comes after repeated directives from the Gujarat High Court to enhance transparency and accountability within police stations. Previously, CCTV cameras were installed in key areas such as PSO cabins, lock-ups, complaint rooms, waiting areas, and station premises. However, PI chambers and Distaff offices were left out.
With this new system, every visitor to the PI chamber, along with their conversations, will be recorded. The police department has mandated that audio and video recordings from these cameras be stored for at least one month. This measure aims to ensure that no misconduct or unauthorized activities take place behind closed doors.
The installation has also impacted the working hours of some PIs. Many who previously arrived at the station late are now reporting on time, with some even skipping lunch breaks to remain at their desks. The initiative is expected to enhance discipline and accountability within the Ahmedabad Police force.
