The journey of this eatery began in 1998 when Chandu Pitambar, a jail inmate, started making bhajiyas in a stall set up by the authorities. The sales were so remarkable that they decided to establish a food joint run by him. Although Pitambar, who was recently freed from jail, has passed away, his legacy of hope, dedication, and rehabilitation continues to thrive.
Inmates with good conduct are selected to work in rotation at the Jail Bhajiya House, earning a daily wage. However, the true impact lies in how this initiative has changed people’s perception of the inmates. When you visit this place, you will notice the absence of police guarding the premises, yet the inmates who handle the eatery never attempt to escape. Instead, you will find a well-managed and peaceful modest eatery.
