You’ve got to give credit to Mumbai, for housing some of the best roadside stalls and dhabas, which people from all over the world come to relish. So out on our mission to bring you something new, we happily stumbled upon 3 kiosks by Shabnam, Pinky and Nasreen, along Bandra’s Pali Naka stretch.
Serving homemade vegetarian food along with Chicken Biryani, this trio fills the tummies of hungry Mumbaikars at super-friendly prices. Read on to know more!
Good Food, Good Mood!
Mumbai is known for some of the best street food in India, such as Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri, and Bombay Chaat. However, today we are coving Biryani, a not-so-native but mouth-watering dish hailing from North India, which found a home in Mumbai.
While roaming around the stretch of Pali Naka Flower Market, you’ll come across three parallel kiosks managed by a single family. First among these stalls, is Shabnam Biryani, managed by Shabnam herself. And then there’s Pinky Pure Veg and Nasreen Biryani – all standing beside each other! Seeing the chunks of crowds around, we were simply intrigued.
In a conversation with us, Shabnam mentioned,”Initially, we only had one stall selling anda-pav and bhurji-pav, at a cost of ₹10 and ₹50, respectively. But we knew we had to do more and anyway, I have loved cooking since childhood. So, my sisters, my mother and I decided to open 3 more stalls, 4 years ago, to serve what we all love – Biryani. The taste of our dish is a blend of Chicken Biryani and Yakhni Pulao. Oh and we still set up our breakfast stall, whenever we can!”
Shabnam brings homecooked biryani for her customers every day in a huge handi, prepared fresh at 5 AM, and having tried it, we can surely say that you are in for a treat! A plate of half chicken biryani with 2 small pieces will cost you ₹50 and a full plate of chicken biryani with 2 pieces will cost ₹70. If you are a vegetarian, do try the Paneer Biryani, just for ₹60 here.
Right next to Shabnam, under another red umbrella, you‘ll find Pinky Pure Veg Corner, serving veg thalis for only ₹60. Each of these thalis feature 4 decent quality of curries and delicious sabzi served along with a couple of roties.
Now, the last one—Nasreen Stall, is an extension of Shabnam Biryani. Just like her sister, Nasreen sells biryani too, at the same price range.
The three sisters stand side-by-side throughout the day and serve delicious home-cooked-food to both veg and non-vegetarian customers. The best time to visit here is for an afternoon lunch session, so you’re good to go for the entire day! But expect the stalls to be crowded to the brim, as the cheap prices and generous quantities attract a lot attention.
