After the black, white and yellow fungal infections plagued the lives of post-COVID patients across the nation, a case of green fungus was diagnosed in Indore. As per reports, the patient aged over 30 was airlifted from a private medical centre in Indore to Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital, in a bid to assure quick and efficient treatment. Reportedly, the District Data Manager of the Health Department, Indore informed that this is possibly the first detection of its kind in the country.
What is green infection?
As per reports, the green fungus is caused by Aspergillus, a common mold that thrives in closed and open spaces. While we generally come in contact with its spores every day, our immune systems prevent them from developing. However, those with lowered immune levels or lung-related morbidities have an amplified chance of catching the disease. Once the disease progresses, it can lead to allergic reactions, lung problems and infections in other organs.
Reportedly, common symptoms of this complication include wheezing, shortness of breath and fever in certain cases. A combination of lab tests, blood examination and CT scans is required to diagnose this infection. In order to mitigate the possibilities of this infection, one must not venture out in dusty places, avoid getting involved in activities with close contact to soil and maintain proper skin hygiene, in case of injuries.

After the patient developed certain complications, he was tested for the fatal black fungus condition but a new type of infection was detected. Due to this, the doctors are ensuring deep research to understand the occurrence of this disease in post-COVID patients.
