In the first phase of the civic eviction cum rehabilitation and demolition of structures, the Indore Municipal Corporation has razed all structures falling between the stretch of Jawahar Marg Bridge & Chandrabhaga Bridge. The action has been taken with respect to the civic body’s agenda of widening the roads here. The initial phase of this project has focussed on the eviction of people settled on the sidelines of this route and their rehabilitation at newly allocated houses at Limbodi in the city.
IMC buckles to implement civic development
The Municipal Commissioner of Indore reportedly stated the IMC evicted all houses in the way of Jawahar Marg Bridge and Mahal Kachari, besides removing portions of 5 structures on Monday, to broaden the roads along this route. Now, the stretch between the two points is clearly visible, providing the playing field to IMC to initiate the civic development plans here.
Officials reported that a total of 209 people were sent packing to Limbodi, where alternative accommodation was made available to them by the IMC at a security cost of ₹45 lakhs. The municipal commissioner acknowledged that the first phase of the project was carried out in peace, with mutual corporation between the civic officials and the people. While expressing her gratitude to the people for their support, she appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the IMC authorities and officials until the completion of the district development project.
The civic body stated that now it will focus to remove the houses that have encroached the road in question, without flattening the entire building. Measurements of such houses have already been initiated by the IMC.
Other plans in the civic pipeline
The Municipal Commissioner informed that the IMC has a similar plan of action chalked out for the stretch between Saraswati river in Machhi Bazaar in Indore. All settlements and structures impeding the road project here will be razed and the people will be rehabilitated to the housing units built in Bada Bangarda/Budania.
