Connecting Kanpur to several cities
Ganga Barrage is a dam built across the River Ganga in the Azad Nagar-Nawabganj area of Kanpur. Apart from making a perfect tourist spot, it is also frequented by morning walkers and other exercise enthusiasts. Recently, police personnel also canvassed this location for their Good Morning Kanpur campaign.
Built by the PWD (Public Works Department), this dam is also known as Luv Kush Barrage which alludes to the connection between Kanpur and the era of Ramayana. A lumpsum of ₹695 crores was spent on its construction and a number of developmental projects progressing in its vicinity have turned this area into the ultimate tourist attraction.
Further, Ganga Barrage is a highway bypass for National Highway 91, which connects Kanpur city to Faridabad, Lucknow, Durgapur, Prayagraj, Agra, Asansol, Varanasi, Dhanbad, Mathura and Bardhaman.
