The Kanpur Metro has buckled to boost its construction phase work, streamlined to inaugurate the services for public use by January next year. As per reports, tenders for laying metro-line corridors will be assigned in the coming week and the pivotal construction work will begin by April. The authorities have slated to lay electrical lines, in addition to setting tracks and fire safety provisions simultaneously to holistically establish the system. Marked for November trials, Kanpur too will become a ‘metro-city’ by 2022.
Kanpur Metro boosts works in all directions
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has set motion to multi-directional development work to begin the service of Kanpur Metro Corridor 1 as soon as possible. For this, the construction of installing sub-station has already commenced. Installed on the mainline, the power-cell will get ready by September. As per reports, two sub-stations will power the Kanpur city operations, while two additional sub-stations will also be set up for seamless functions.
These will further help to shoulder the expanded services in the coming years. Besides this, platforms, metro carriages, and tracks are all being built to easily alter for an increased load of the future. At present, 10 tracks are being built on the tracks, which can be expanded by 7 more. Each Metro carriage can also be extended by 1 more coach, as per reports. Commissioner in charge also stated that 40 trains will be sufficient to meet the needs of Kanpur by 2042. Besides this, control room and administrative office will get ready by July and by August 2021, it will become the centre of all operations.
The first corridor will have 7 underground metro-stations, the tunnelling of which will be launched near Brijendra Swaroop Park next to Motijheel. Electric shuttle bus service will be available for all 9 stations along this route. As per reports, the authorities will conduct a door-to-door survey to take people’s recommendations and suggestions to improve the facilites.
