Built in the memory of Deewan Tikait Rai Bahadur of Awadh, the Tikait Rai Talab in Lucknow is set to become the site of a major facelift project, under the supervision of LDA. As per reports, the authority has released a budget of 68 to refurbish the historic monument on priority. Notably, the pond has been closed for a long time now and will open for tourists only after the revamped model is completed.

According to an order issued by Chief Engineer Indushekhar Singh, the revamp of the Taikait Rai Pond is likely to begin in a week. During the project course, the LDA will install a fountain with coloured lights in the pond while working on other restoration programmes. Measures will be taken to patch up the tank body to retain the talab water, read an official note.
As part of the overall beautification effort, the LDA will also improve the landscaping of the pond complex. Plans further suggest that all illegal encroachment on and off-site will be removed along with the repair work of the damaged boundary wall.

Tikait Rai Talab is a lesser-known landmark in Lucknow which was built in honour of Tikait Rai Bahadur, the Deewan of the Nawabs during 1791-1796. It is a small tank with a separate bathing ghat for women. A temple of Hindu deity Goddess Sheetala is also present in the vicinity, where fairs are organised every year on Holi.
The pond once used by the queens for bathing, is now used by kids as a playground while stairs have turned into a jogging trail. Though this pond doesn’t serve its original purpose anymore, it still is a treasure trove for all the history buffs. Once fully furnished, it is expected to pull in tourist footfalls by the dozen, much like it used to in the erstwhile era.
