In a move to overcome the shortage of LPG cylinders in Uttar Pradesh, the state has rolled out a new scheme to upgrade 20 lakh households with PNG connections. The provision of pipeline gas supply will be made available at the targetted houses in Eastern UP, meeting the increased demand for cooking gas here. Once operational, the new facility will ensure an affordable and secure gas service to all.

Piped Natural Gas connections are more economical and safer than LPG cylinders. The tapped supply will reportedly help consumers save up to 35-40% on their natural gas bills, aiding a financial relief for many.
The state is already working on a plan to lay a 2,050km-long gas pipeline from Haldia in Wester Bengal to Jamshedpur in UP, to enable the novel provision here. Backed by the Union Government, this provision is pegged to relay a secure system of gas supply to the public. “You will be billed for whatever you consume. There will be no complaint of gas theft and there will be no shortage,” the official added.
Previously, PNG connections were provided to around 101 families in Gorakhpur and positive feedback of the same has buoyed the state’s attempt to amplify it across. The provision will promote a lifestyle upgrade for many, suggested reports.
