Sarthak Foundation is working towards the ambition of creating and culturing an environment that aids to empower and educate every economically marginalised child in Uttar Pradesh. With their new initiative of Yellow Rooms, they have set a pace to transform their vision of ‘Happy Empowered Children’ into a reality here. Reaching out to kids in urban slums, villages and construction sites in Lucknow, this NGO is working every day to provide the children their rights and their share of happiness!
An approach to uplift & empower children facing different challenges
Working towards the final goal of spreading joy, Sarathak Foundation has launched ‘Yellow Rooms’ in Uttar Pradesh to reach out to all children aged between 3-18 years to provide a happy and safe environment, promising quality and inclusive education, beyond textbooks. These special motive teaching modules are digitally equipped and focus on the holistic development of the students, nurturing them socially, emotionally and physically. This reduces cases of abuse, addictions and child labour.
While their classrooms encapsulate interactive activities, digital classes, communication, science and maths sessions and corporate exposures, they also have a Children Panchayat that sensitises children towards gender, animals and social issues.
Uttar Pradesh has the maximum share of children working as labourers and the Sarthak Foundation wants to alter this morbid reality of the state. A team of 30 full-time employees spend about 7 hours in slums working to identify the different woes of children and custom stitch their ‘happy transformation’. Be it holistic education or inclusion, empowerment, skills or training, this organisation has customised its provisions for maximum output. They ensure that students over 16 years are employable and can lead a financially stable life.
Achievements of Sarathak Foundation
Started in 2013 with a handful of students and little to no resources, they have scaled up to induct as many as 1050 children, across the state, where a 55% majority are girl children. In these 7 years, they have proudly established 12 Yellow Rooms at various sites in Lucknow and 10 RTI Sarthak Gurukul in Village Sonari, Sitapur.
With a 95% enrolment rate, 90% attendance and only 3% drop out rate, they have made a statement that right means and right education embraces all. They have also presented their education module at Niti-Ayog in 2017 and personalities such as Farhan Akhtar and Dr. Swaroop Sampat Rawal have appreciated and provided their inputs towards their goal.
