Lucknow Metro has quickly adapted to the changed circumstances, post the COVID-19 lockdown. As per reports, the local travel system in the city has witnessed the fastest recovery in its ridership owing to a list of measures that it implemented to block the spread of the virus. While the metro management had initiated UV-tech sanitisation of travel tokens after metro services resumed, there are reports that the innovative technology would be used for disinfecting train coaches soon.
Achieved 60% of the ridership recorded during pre-COVID times
Adding another new feather to its cap, the world’s fastest commissioned metro system achieved the quickest recovery in its ridership after its resumption post the COVID lockdown. This is not the first time that it achieved such a feat. In the past, Lucknow metro had garnered headlines for completing its construction 36 days before the slated deadline. Despite the schools, colleges, offices being closed, the Lucknow metro has attained 60% of the ridership recorded in pre-Corona times, which is significantly more than other metro systems across the country.
According to a research conducted by Jaipuria Institute, the metro management has been successful in its attempt to increase awareness about various facilities like, Go Smart Card and Ticket Vending Machine.

Given the faith and confidence of the people in UPMRC’s Lucknow metro, the local travel system has evolved as the safest mode of transport during these tough times. UPMRC further plans to implement the ‘One City One Card’ system to promote easier connectivity and a better commuter experience.
