The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) unveiled a spacious new elevated deck at Khar Railway Station on Monday at 5:30 pm, as part of its station improvement project. This 11.75-metre-long and 10.10-metre-wide elevated deck with staircases at platforms 3 and 4, connecting the north foot over bridge (FOB), will help to decongest the station. Once the remaining façade work is completed, Western Railway will take over its operations.
Khar Station’s advanced amenities and features

The new deck includes four staircases, elevators, ticket counters, offices, restrooms, and food stalls.

High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans with a 24-foot sweep enhance air circulation and passenger comfort.

New booking offices are available at both deck and platform levels.
This revamp will help ease the load on Bandra Station, as Khar is now connected to Bandra Terminus via a 44-m-long and 6-m-wide foot overbridge, constructed by Western Railway at a cost of ₹4.55 crore.
The ₹80 crore project failed to meet the June deadline set for its completion. However, it represents a major step in MRVC’s mission to transform Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
Khar Station sets benchmark!
As per officials, Khar station’s deck is now the largest among Western Railway’s suburban stations, serving approximately 1.6 lakh daily commuters. As per reports, Khar Station will soon get a commercial and office space above it
Moreover, similar modernisation efforts are ongoing at Borivli and other stations across the Western and Central lines.
