Train tracking system using GPS is a crucial need, especially in the case of local trains which cater to millions of daily commuters in Mumbai. With an aim to offer real-time information, and help keep passengers informed about the whereabouts of a train, Central Railways recently launched live train tracking via GPS service.
As per the press release issued by Central Railways, live tracking will be accessible on the Central Railway’s Yatri app. Currently, the new service is available only on a few lines.

The satellite-based tracking system on the Yatri app is not just limited to keeping passengers up to speed with real-time info. The app will also be equipped with enhanced security features including live location sharing.
Moreover, features for ease of passengers have also been added. These include instant location streaming of trains, local station maps, fares, train schedules, tourists ticket fares, live railway announcements and keeping a track on trains.
These upgrades are launched to ensure a safe, efficient and hassle-free commute for daily passengers. As of now, this facility is only available for local train commuters of Mainline, Harbour line, Transharbour line and Belapur/Nerul-Kharkopar line.
