In order to make essentials like sanitary pads easily available, the UP govt has initiated a project to install pad vending machines in multiple locations across Lucknow. Under the Mission Shakti program, the first pad vending machine has been installed at the Office of Commercial Taxes in Lucknow.
Set up in association with the volunteer organisation 'Angel Wings', the new machine was inaugurated by the State Commissioner of the Commerical Tax Department, Ministhy S on Thursday. Apart from this, incinerator machines to dispose of pads are also being installed in parks and selected areas.
Recognising & providing for the needs of working women
This is the first such initiative to take place in any govt office in Lucknow. Reportedly, the Commissioner also distributed free sanitary pads to women sanitation workers during the event. This step recognises and provides for the needs of working women, prioritising their hygiene. Such efforts should also be replicated in other departments and offices too. Sanitary napkins are an essential need for women and its easy availability at offices will surely keep the female staff at ease.
