The Butler Park in Lucknow is undergoing a major uplift under the ambit of Mission Shakti, Uttar Pradesh’s women empowerment programme. As per reports, the Lucknow Development Authority is constructing a pink-themed ‘Virangana’ (adventures) park here, as a model of safe public space for women. The Officer-in-Charge and Executive Engineer of the project, Kamaljit Singh, informed that this place will be groomed to be the first of its kind facility in the state, by the first week of June.
The park will be equipped with modern amenities
In an attempt to create a better and secure environment for women in Lucknow, the LDA has decided to give a complete makeover to the Butler Park, opposite the Qaiserbagh Baradari. This ‘family park’ is being built at the cost of ₹25 lakh as a dedicated facility for women and children and will have modern swings and slides along with selfie points as recreative amenities for all.
Besides this, a maternity centre will also be installed at the park for the benefit of young mothers. Women can use this space to breastfeed their newborns while at the park, in the sanctity of privacy. The Executive Engineer also informed that several rooms will also be developed at the park so that mothers can roam around while taking care of their babies.
These changes and upgrades will spruce up the park, boosting footfall and even tourist attention. This refurbished park will evolve as a safe recreational space for women, boosting the pillars of security under the scope of Mission Shakti. As per reports, a proposal has also been floated to change the name of the park to give it a distinguished identity.
