After the success of the Jhalana Leopard Safari, Jaipur is all set to get another leopard safari soon. In an attempt to increase tourist footfalls, the forest department of Rajasthan is now gearing up to set up a tourist safari in the Galta region too. This territory is home to around 17 wild cats. While the safari is expected to commence soon, no official date has been decided yet.

Taking a cue from Jhalana which is always crammed with tourists, the authorities have now decided to open the Galta forest for tourists too. This Galta region is spread over an area of 36 square kilometres and has a wide variety of species. The neighbouring Jhalana Leopard Reserve and Galta combined, are home to more than 60 sub-adult and adult leopards.
As per the officials, around 44 leopards, 132 species of avifauna, 220 species of flora and 20 species of reptiles, among others can be spotted in the forest at Jhalana. The Galta region too is said to have the same attractions as Jhalana.

The Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 puts the leopard in the endangered animal category. Notable, Rajasthan holds the title of being the first state in India to launch an initiative aimed at conserving wild cats. Launched in 2017 with a budget of 7 crores, Project Leopard was implemented in 8 sanctuaries across the state.
This initiative involves improving the prey base of leopards, mitigating conflicts with humans and controlling poaching. Due to the continued efforts, there has been an increase in the number of leopards in the state lately, thus creating a need to build a habitat for them.
