Though the weekly fatality rate in Indore has been pegged as the highest in the ongoing third wave, most of the fresh cases here are being traced in the 21-40 year age category – similar to that of the second spell. These patients account for over 51% of all infections recorded in Indore. Statistically, only a smaller fraction of 9.72% of the cumulative load are elderly, over the age of 60 years. Health officials consider more exposure in the younger age groups a reason for this significant difference.

More male patients than females

Indore has witnessed a total of 19 deaths due to Coronavirus infections in the new year. The infection claimed 4 on January 23 alone. This has been the highest number of deaths in a day since the beginning of the third wave. Consequently, the fatality rate has been the highest this week in the district. Healthcare officials blame the casualties on public carelessness. It has been observed that people, especially the youth, have been taking COVID protocol lightly in crowded areas.
