The Chief Minister of Rajasthan green flagged Jaipur Metro’s first-ever underground station at Chandpole via a video conference on Wednesday and dedicated the service to the people of the city. This extended-stretch has been included in the 1-B phase of the metro plans, between Chandpole and Badi Chaupar, which will cover a distance of 2.1km, reducing the pressures on the road traffic, easing commute and saving time.
New Underground Line in Jaipur
Running through the walled-city part of the city, the CM initiated the costliest metro service of the Jaipur on Wednesday, captained by woman driver, Shaifali. The Head of the state further pointed out the purpose of this rapid transport system is not based on the economic returns of profit or loss, rather, it is dedicated to the service of people, providing them with an easy and cheap means of commute.
The new I-B phase runs along the East to West Corridor of the city and is a part of the 12.06km stretch that connects Mansarovar to Chandpole via an elevated I-A from Mansarovar to Chandpole, and the new underground I-B from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar, in 26 minutes.
This plan has been in the state development pipeline since 2013, and due to administrative changes and slow-paced construction work, it finally met its fulfilment in September 2020. The Chief Minister further acknowledged the efforts of the Union Urban Development Ministry for their cooperation in erecting this new line. He also requested to connect other districts like Jodhpur and Bikaner to the Smart City Project to undertake developmental and infrastructure projects there as well.
Metro resume functions normally
Besides this inauguration, other services of the Jaipur Metro also resumed their normal services on Wednesday. The Jaipur Metro was shut-down in March as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus infection in the city. Now, after almost months, all lines, including the new underground route of I-B will ferry its passengers in a safe and rapid means of transport.
