The Goan government is taking all the steps possible, to make sure that people follow the social distancing norms and comply with the rules set out to arrest the spread of the coronavirus infection. On Monday, the Chief Minister announced that the fine for not wearing masks in public places in Goa has been doubled from ₹100 to ₹200. Besides these, the state is also establishing various precautions, preventive protocols and SOPs against the COVID-19 spread in view of the expected raised influx of tourists and migrant workers in the coming weeks.
Hiked Penalty for not wearing masks in Goa
The Chief Minister on Monday reportedly stated, “Till now we have been charging Rs 100 (per offence). From today onwards the fine (for not wearing a mask) has been increased to Rs 200. At least in public, people will have to wear masks or they will be compulsorily fined.” The decision comes after a busy tourist weekend in Goa, during which thousands of tourists (without masks) were seen on the state’s beaches as well as casinos, paying no attention to the social distancing norms. This comment imposes a stringent compulsion on people to wear masks, in order to prevent the any further spike in the contagious spread.
At present, Goa’s total caseload stands at 46,901, which come after 4 days of depreciating fresh numbers. This tourist destination is currently treating 1,141 cases while furnishing a high 96.1% of recovery rate. The state has so far declared 45,083 recoveries, with 677 fatalities.
