Overwhelmed by a huge chunk of COVID patients, Uttar Pradesh is facing an unprecedented crunch in medical resources and facilities. In view of these extraordinary circumstances, the state government has initiated plans to institute a manpower bank of trained professionals for supplementing medical staff in all districts of the state. While the healthcare facilities are being increased daily to deal with the pandemic, there is an urgent need for a parallel hike in the count of healthcare workers.
Retired doctors, final year medical students & others to be deployed!
Under this initiative, retired doctors, retired army personnel, experienced paramedics, and final year students of medical and paramedical courses will be deployed in areas with a shortage of human resources. This intervention was conceived after the authorities noticed that ventilators at some centres were not operating due to the absence of medical staff. Additionally, the CM has also asked to prioritise appointments for Chief Medical Officer and Chief Medical Superintendent in districts that have these posts vacant.
Reportedly, 100 beds are being added to the RML Hospital in Lucknow while there are plans to add 250 new units in KGMU. Further, the establishment of new COVID facilities at the Awadh Shilpgram and Haj House has been speeded up and they will be made operational very soon.
Multiple measures by the state government to alleviate the current crisis
The state authorities have been successful in directing supplies from Jamnagar (Gujarat), Durgapur and Barjora (West Bengal) and Rourkela (Odisha) to detangle the oxygen problems in Uttar Pradesh. Due to these efforts, Lucknow received the seventh Oxygen Express on Saturday, expanding the LMO stocks for the city. Further, the authorities are also deliberating upon converting sugar mills into oxygen manufacturing centres with the help of required technical support.
The administration has been asked to focus its attention on assuring 100% assistance to pregnant women in the state. Speaking about this, the CM affirmed that such women should be provided immediate ambulance services and medical help through streamlined measures, as and when required.
