The Indore district health authorities have decided to launch a special 15-day COVID vaccination drive, targeted at people falling in high-risk categories. The Indore District Immunisation Officer further informed that on-spot registrations will be provisioned at the 19 zonal offices of IMC for these groups, to expedite the inoculation campaign.
These vulnerable groups consist of bank employees, private school teacher, staffers at chemist and petrol pump associations, house help and maids along with fruit vendors, labourers as they are more susceptible to the virus due to increased human contact.
IMC sets up a 600 volunteer group to launch the COVID vax drive
Streamlined with the state’s decision to prioritise vaccination of high-risk groups, the Indore district has decided to adopt an aggressive approach to ensure inoculation among population groups for are at a higher risk of catching the coronavirus. The District Immunisation Officer informed that the Indore Municipal Corporation has constituted a team of 600 NGO volunteers to mobilise targetted beneficiaries during the following 15 days.
The local administration has been clearly instructed to administer the COVID jab to all those who claim to belong to the high-risk groups, with or without the support of official documents. Besides this, special vaccination sites will be erected in different parts of the city to inoculate people working at petrol pumps and chemists.
Similarly, bank employees and school teachers will be provided with the COVID jab at dedicated centres, organised within the premises of their institutes. The Immunisation Officer further informed that no directive has been yet received to initiate vaccination among gig workers such as e-services’ delivery boys. However, they can also be inducted in the scope of this special drive if instructed so by the District Collector and the IMC Commission, the official concluded.
The Indore district has successfully administered over 12.3 lakh vaccination doses here, since the COVID inoculation launch in January 2021. This tally has been reported as the highest immunisation achievement, across MP.
